Extension of the health measures for air travel to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

In view of the development of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus at international level, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry of Health wish to inform of the extension of the health measures applicable from 29 January 2021 until 31 March 2021 inclusive, for all air travel to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Any person, regardless of nationality, aged 6 years or over, wishing to travel by air to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, must present the negative test result (on paper or electronic document)

  • of a nucleic acid amplification tests of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA - PCR (polymerase chain reaction), TAM (transcription-mediated amplification) or LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification)
  • or of a viral antigen test (in line with the World Health Organization criteria: Antigen-detection in the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection using rapid immunoassays, Interim Guidance, 11 September 2020)

performed less than 72 hours before the flight by a medical analysis laboratory or any other entity authorised for this purpose. The negative test result must be presented, if necessary along with a translation, either in one of the administrative languages of Luxembourg, or in English. Documents in Italian, Spanish or Portuguese are now also accepted.

In addition, any person travelling by air from a third country, i.e. a country that is not a member of the European Union or the Schengen area, will have to undergo an additional viral rapid antigen test on arrival at Luxembourg airport. If the person refuses to submit to a test, he or she will remain in quarantine for 14 days. This quarantine may be terminated at any time, as soon as a negative test result is obtained.

The testing obligations applicable to all persons wishing to enter Luxembourg from a third country are in addition to the temporary restrictions already in place for non-essential travel to the European Union. As a reminder, third-country nationals coming from a third country can no longer enter the territory of the Grand Duchy until 31 March 2021 inclusive, except for certain categories of exempted persons.

Details of these restrictions and various exemptions are available on our page Visiting Luxembourg.
