COVID-19: Adaptation of the Contact Tracing procedure to facilitate the tracing of contacts

In view of the strong growth in new COVID-19 infections, the Contact Tracing unit of the Health Inspectorate has adapted its operating mode to increase its reactivity in the follow-up of contacts. This adaptation is operational since 31 December 2021.

If you test positive for COVID-19: self-isolate!

In any case, self-isolate. Notify the people with whom you have been in close contact over the last 2 days and prepare a list with their names, telephone numbers and email addresses.

By an antigen self-test (Schnelltest):

  • Report your result on covidtracing.public.lu
  • You must immediately perform a PCR test to confirm your positive result. The prescription for the PCR test will be sent to you by e-mail within a few hours of your report.
  • If your positive result is confirmed by PCR, make the self-report on the same site or if you prefer, wait for Contact Tracing to call you.

If it is not possible to self-report (antigen self-test), you should perform a PCR test or a certified antigen test as soon as possible or contact your physician.

By PCR/certified antigen test:

  • Once you have received the Contact Tracing reference number by SMS, declare yourself with the link provided in the SMS (https://covidtracing.public.lu/).
  • Report all your close contacts with their phone numbers, email or postal addresses, your last day at work, school or other, and the date of onset of your symptoms. (Be accurate and complete in your information, otherwise your report will not be validated and you will have to wait for the Contact Tracing to call.)
  • As soon as Contact Tracing has validated your report (within 24 to 48 hours), your isolation prescription will be sent to you by e-mail. (Please check your junk mail regularly).

If it is not possible for you to self-report (PCR test or certified antigen test), you will be contacted by Contact Tracing as soon as possible, normally within 48 hours of your test result. If you do not have a computer, please wait for a phone call.

If you were in high-risk contact with a COVID-19 positive person

Please note: If you have declared yourself as a close contact or if another person has declared you as a close contact, you will normally not be called by the Contact Tracing team.

  • If your email address is provided, you will in any case receive a prescription by email to perform a PCR test 6 days after the last contact with the positive person.
  • If you are not vaccinated or recovered, you will also receive a quarantine order. The quarantine ends on the 7th day, provided that a PCR test has been carried out on the 6th day after the last contact, and that this test is negative. For 7 days after quarantine, consider self-monitoring and wear a mask when in contact with other people.
  • Should symptoms appear during your quarantine period or even after a negative test, you should immediately test and self-isolate without delay.
  • Further reduce social contact, observe protective measures and, if possible, work from home until your PCR test result is negative.
  • If you test positive, please follow the procedure above.

You will find more information on www.covid19.lu, including how to organise your self-isolation and self-quarantine.
